Had to travel to the ends of the earth, always pursue something finer. Only then could you see what was close by and grasp the treasure you’d been sitting on all the time. It is the wisdom gained over the generations, drawn from the deep spruces and crystal-clear lakes. Real life, life lived to the full. Kolima was born out of freedom and forbidden tradition. Something that can only be tasted with your heart.
The main ingredient of our moonshine is Pihtipudas wheat, the taste of which acquires body and nuance from wheat malt as well as local barley and rye. The nose is aroma-packed, grainy fresh, while the soft flavour displays a little sweetness reminiscent of mead and a depth akin to fine cognac. Centuries of venerable traditions honoured; moonshine redeemed.
We refined Kolima Moonshine into a vodka with a more succinct taste profile, preserving however hints of moonshine’s multifaceted, cereal-rich and layered flavour gamut. The aroma of our vodka displays a certain grainy sweetness while the flavour has a soft depth and a gentle, warming bite. It is distinct, but finely nuanced. Just like a premium vodka should be.
Kolima Distillery was born out of a desire to rekindle a backwoods distilling tradition handed down from one generation to the next. By investing at each stage of the production process in uncompromising quality and meticulous handiwork we can conjure up taste experiences which venerate the old but simultaneously afford new and exciting dimensions. In our products we use carefully selected cereals sourced from local producers and the pure groundwater on hand in the Lake Kolima area which in tandem pay homage to local traditions. Our goal is to make world-class noble spirits which showcase the unique taste palette of our local area.

Our facilities are located right in the middle of Finland on the shores of Lake Kolima. Our doors are open to visitors who wish to acquaint themselves with the secrets of moonshine production on one of our guided tours. In our restaurant visitors can take part in a tasting session that provides an opportunity to enjoy the distinctive products made at the distillery and hear the fascinating stories behind them. We open predominantly by prior arrangement but further details of our opening times can be found on social media.
